Band Member Profile![]() John FisherBass Clarinet
My musical career started as a military bandsman in the Rhine Staff Band of the Royal Tank Regiment in 1962. In 1979 I left the army and hung up my clarinet. I carried on my love of music by being a member of East Grinstead Operatic Society and Crawley Operatic Society.
It was some years before I picked up a clarinet again, in fact it was thanks to my daughter Sally that I did as she bought me a new clarinet which I still have!
In 1999, as Millennium Officer for Crawley Borough Council, I formed Crawley Millennium Concert Band as one of the Towns Millennium projects. The Band gave its first concert at the Hawth on the 15th January 2000. The original plan was to form a band just for the Millennium year but such was the success of CMCB it is still going stong and is now widely recognised as one of the top community band's in the region.
I was chairman of the Band for it's first 10 years handing over to Andrew Hartley at the AGM in 2009. At the 2010 AGM I was elected as the Band's first Honorary President, a position that I proudly accepted.
